The Journey Begins!
Well, we are finally on our way. We boarded the Salish Orca ferry this afternoon and have arrived in Vancouver – the first leg of our 9 day vacation. Tomorrow, the fun starts.
David and I decided it was time for a summer adventure this year. So we are headed through the Rockies to Old Entrance, Alberta. Where’s that, you might ask, and why are you going there? Let me fill you in!

Old Entrance is on the Athabasca River near Hinton, just east of Jasper National Park.
We are going to visit some cousins on my mother’s side of the family – people I only discovered last year and have never met. I have been avidly researching my family tree for the past few months and astoundingly came upon a gaggle of about 150 relatives in BC and Alberta. Wow! Talk about expanding the family tree.

We packed up the car with our favourite foods including veggies from the garden – fennel, zucchini, kale & chard – plus spices and other tasty treats to keep us fueled up.
We have clothes for warm weather, cold weather, thunderstorms and rain. The yoga mat is to keep us limber after all the driving we’re in for. And I even brought my cowboy hat. After all, it is Alberta!
Tomorrow we head to Whistler and points beyond. We have never driven that northern route to Alberta, and are looking forward to it, especially the highway between Pemberton and Lilloet. We hear it’s quite exciting.
Watch for more posts! I’ll fill you in on the adventures we encounter.
