On the Road Again
The weather is looking great and it’s time to get another camping trip in this year. This will be the 4th place we have travelled to in 2022 – exploring “new to us” campgrounds in BC, and what fun it has been. Our destination this time was a week at Goldstream Provincial Park near Victoria.
Another heat wave is predicted for the next few days in BC, but the cool blue of the water as we crossed the Salish Sea on the ferry was delightfully refreshing.

When we arrived in Crofton, David decided it was time for his second coffee of the day. So we made a stop at the cafe called the Third Wave located near the ferry dock. As I waited in the car, I was amused by the street sign in front of me.

I didn’t know speed bumps were called speed humps. You learn something new every day!

To get to Goldstream we had to travel south from Crofton on Hwy 1 via the infamous Malahat section of the highway. I say infamous because it is 2 lanes of busy roadway crammed in between steep cliffs on the west side and a dropoff on the east side. It is the ONLY highway from Victoria to the central and northern parts of Vancouver Island which means there are a lot of commercial vehicles transporting goods on that route and many people commuting from one city to another. If the road is blocked by an accident, landslide or snowstorm (which does happen several times a year), it causes many problems and a lot of discussion about how to solve the dilemma.
It was very hot today, and we made a mental note to avoid travelling south in the car in mid-day on our next trip. Thankfully there were no major events on our drive, just a slow section where construction crews will be repairing the Malahat section from now until next July!
We arrived at Goldstream and happily set to work setting up and organizing our campsite. Every site we have been at this year and last has required a different configuration for our tent, screen tent and tarps. This time we had to set up the tarp to give us some protection from the sun rather than rain. By 4 pm we were satisfied with what we had created.

We took some time to cool off in the tent before making supper. Then it was time to make supper, and start on my blog while David went for a walk to see the falls.

Now the dishes are washed and a few mosquitoes are buzzing around me. So I’ll just finish this up and head to bed. More adventures tomorrow!
